Stephen P. Ginsberg, M.D. was raised in Southern California where he graduated from UCLA with honors in 1962. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco where he also completed his ophthalmology residency in 1970. After concluding a prestigious corneal transplant and external disease fellowship at the University of Florida, he served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Ft. Meade and as Assistant Chief of Ophthalmology at Walter Reed Army Hospital during the Vietnam War.
Dr. Ginsberg became board certified in ophthalmology in 1972, and began his private practice in 1974 in Silver Spring, Maryland. In 1987, Dr. Ginsberg established Kensington Eye Center (KEC), which originated from a practice founded in 1922. The emphasis of his practice at KEC is cataract surgery, glaucoma care, ophthalmic plastic surgery, and corneal transplants.
Dr. Ginsberg is currently serving as the Chairman of Ophthalmic Surgery at Washington Adventist Hospital, a position he has held for over ten years. He has also been honored as one of Washingtonian Magazine’s "Best Doctors" for the past 15 years. Dr. Ginsberg is a prolific author of many papers and books including Cataract and Intraocular Lens Surgery, Ophthalmic Technology: A Guide for the Eye Care Assistant, and A Guide to An Effective Out-Patient Surgical Center. Dr. Ginsberg has served as editor of the Montgomery County Medical Society Bulletin and on the editorial board of Ocular Surgery News. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.
